Now, even your tires are high tech! We are trained and certified and equipped! You may recall the stories about Ford and Firestone and tire failures from several years back. The deaths, injuries and resulting lawsuits from those tire failures are causing major changes in the tire industry. One of these changes is almost all new cars and trucks now have computerized tire pressure monitoring systems that will automatically alert the driver if one or more of the vehicle’s tires are low in air. Why? Most importantly, low tire pressures cause a tire to run hotter and make the tire much more prone to a blow-out. A high speed blow-out can lead to loss of control and can result in an accident. In addition, low tire pressure causes premature tire wear and also a loss in fuel mileage (at today’s prices every mile per gallon counts!) A second of these changes in the tire industry, is the popularity of EMT tires. The design of an EMT tire (Extended Mobility Tire) is such that the sidewall of the tire is beefed-up and very stiff. This allows a tire that has been punctured to continue to be driven on in an emergency situation. Both EMT tires and tires with computerized tire pressure monitoring systems require special equipment and training to mount, balance and service. Without the proper training and equipment, both expensive tires and expensive tire pressure sensors can be damaged! Expensive and potentially dangerous! All three of our technicians were among the first certified in York County on these new systems. We have the training. We have the equipment. We’re here when you need us. Back to What's New
