- Poor quality or hard semi-metallic brake lining material
- Poor quality of the surface that the brake pads and shoes must push against. These surfaces must be perfect
- Worn hardware (clips, shims, springs) that are designed to keep the brake pads and shoes from vibrating while the brakes are applied
- On some vehicles, just the brake design. On some models, no matter what you do to try to correct the brake noise, you will never get rid of it.
