What are all the things that can cause brake noise?

1. Poor quality or hard semi-metallic brake lining material
2. Poor quality of the surface that the brake pads and shoes must push against. These surfaces must be perfect
3. Worn hardware (clips, shims, springs) that are designed to keep the brake pads and shoes from vibrating while the brakes are applied
4. On some vehicles, just the brake design. On some models, no matter what you do to try to correct the brake noise, you will never get rid of it.
